What to do in the event of a forest fire

If you discover a forest fire early, you can often extinguish it with simple means.

Nine out of ten forest fires are caused by human activity. Bonfires and barbecues are the most common causes.

Notify quickly

In the initial phase, most forest fires can be extinguished with simple means. All fires must be notified as soon as possible to the emergency number 110

While waiting for help, you can start the extinguishing work yourself, but don't take any chances. Get out of the area before the flames surround you.

Ban on open fires

To avoid starting a forest fire yourself: Remember the general bonfire ban that applies between April 15 and September 15. If it is very dry, the municipality can introduce a total ban at other times as well.
