How to prepare yourself mentally for crises

By thinking about how you are likely to react, you can avoid becoming overwhelmed in a crisis.

Think back to a serious situation you have experienced before - for example, a death in the family or a major event in society. How did you react? You will probably respond in a similar way next time. Try to remember what helped you then and make a plan to do the same again.

Talk to someone about how you might react and what you would do in a crisis. You can talk to the people you live with, friends, family, neighbors, or colleagues. Make a plan for how you can support each other if needed. It will make it easier to ask for help when the time comes.
