Here you will find information to foreign electrical skilled workers, electrical contractors and enterprices wich offer designing, installing and maintaince of electrical installations in Norway.

1. Electrical skilled workers

In order to get a permission to continue a regulated profession as an electrical skilled worker in Norway, if you have your education and practical experience from a country being a member of EU or EEA, you must send an application to Directorate for civil protection and emergency planning (DSB) in Norway.

There is no application form available.

It is very important that the applicant specifies what kind of profession the electrical skilled worker is applying for permission to continue in Norway.

The application could be sent by e-mail to: postmottak@dsb.no or to the postal address: Directorate for civil protection and emergency planning (DSB), Post Box 2014, NO-3103 Tønsberg, Norway.

To be approved as an electrical skilled worker in Norway, your skills have to meet the requirements of the Norwegian regulations for electrical enterprises and qualifications to work on electrical installations and electrical equipment (fek).

The evaluation of your qualifications is to be done in accordance with Directive 2005/36/EU. In general the requirement is more than 2 years of practice performing installation work after receiving the certificate of apprenticeship.

It is an advantage that the person applied for is able to speak, read and understand a Nordic language or at least English.

The applicant has to enclose the following documentation:

  • CV, that describes biographical data, education and practical experience
  • Copy of the original school report
  • Copy of the original certificate of apprenticeship or certificate skilled worker
  • Copy of the original profession certificate, authorization or trade association certificate
  • Copy of the original references from current or former employers documenting relevant practical experience after receiving the certificate of apprenticeship
  • Copy of passport

All copies shall be certified by notary public.

Both application and all enclosure must be translated into either Norwegian or English language by an officially approved translation company. Swedish and Danish appliers do not have to translate their documentation.

It is very important that all documentation asked for follow the application, the expended run time starts when documentation asked for is received by DSB.

2. Obligation to register the enterprise

The management of an Enterprise which undertakes design, installation, repair and maintenance of electrical installations is cf. the regulations for electrical enterprises and qualifications to work on electrical installations and electrical equipment (fek, obligated to register the Enterprise into the register of Enterprises which design, install and maintain electrical installations.

From now on it is called Elvirksomhetsregisteret. This register is owned by the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB).

Enterprises which are obligated to register into Elvirksomhetsregisteret, must in advance be registered into Brønnøysundregisterene, (the Norwegian Register of Business Enterprises) in order to get a Norwegian organization number. Registration can be done at brreg.no

Registration into Elvirksomhetsregisteret can be done at altinn.no.

Your Enterprise can not offer any task concerning designing, installing or maintains on electrical installations before you receive a receipt from Altinn confirming successful registration.

3. Electrical Contractor (person in charge of work on electrical installations)

In order to get a permission to continue a regulated profession as an electrical Contractor (person in charge of electrical installation) in Norway, if you have your education and practical experience from a country being a member of EU or EEA, you must send an application to Directorate for civil protection and emergency planning (DSB) in Norway.

There is no application form available.

It is very important that the applicant specifies upper final voltage the electrical Contractor (person in charge of electrical installation)is applying for permission to continue in Norway.

The application could be sent by e-mail to: postmottak@dsb.no   or to the postal address: Directorate for civil protection and emergency planning (DSB), Post Box 2014, NO-3103 Tønsberg, Norway.

To be approved as an electrical Contractor (person in charge of electrical installation) in Norway, your skills have to meet the requirements of the Norwegian Regulations for electrical enterprises and qualifications to work on electrical installations and electrical equipment (fek).

  • Copy of passport
